Traffic arrangements for commissioning of Lam Tin Interchange, Tseung Lam Highway and Wan O Road and bus services for Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel
******************************************************************************************
     The Transport Department (TD) said today (December 7) that the commissioning of the Lam Tin Interchange, Tseung Lam Highway and Wan O Road (including associated cycle track and footpath) will take place at 8am on December 11 (Sunday), and members of the public are advised to be alert to the respective traffic and public transport arrangements.

1. Traffic arrangements

     The Tseung Lam Highway comprises the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT) and the Cross Bay Link (CBL). The Tseung Lam Highway, upon its commissioning, will provide an alternative trunk road to connect Tseung Kwan O and Kwun Tong as well as the Eastern Harbour Crossing to alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours at the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel. Signage has been installed at appropriate locations to guide motorists.

     ýÿAt the Kowloon East end, the TKO-LTT has two entrances and exits. Motorists can enter the Lam Tin Interchange leading to the TKO-LTT via the new roundabout at Cha Kwo Ling Road in Yau Tong, or the new slip road connecting the Eastern Harbour Crossing (Annex 1).

     At the Tseung Kwan O end, the TKO-LTT also has two entrances and exits. Motorists can travel to and from the TKO-LTT via the junction of Po Yap Road and Po Shun Road at Tseung Kwan O Town Centre, or the CBL (Annex 2). Motorists can also travel to the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate and the LOHAS Park via the CBL.

     The TD appealed to motorists to pay attention to the signage at the scene, and reduce speed and be courteous when approaching the new roundabout, signalised junctions and merging points.

     The TD reminded members of the public that traffic at the new road sections will sometimes remain busy after the commissioning of the Lam Tin Interchange, the TKO-LTT and the CBL. Depending on actual traffic conditions, motorists may choose appropriate routes, including the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, to travel to and from Tseung Kwan O.

2. Public transport arrangements

     ýÿThe following five new franchised bus routes will provide services from December 12 (Monday) via the TKO-LTT in the morning and evening peaks from Mondays to Fridays (except public holidays):

  • KMB Route No. 96 (Hong Sing Garden - Tai Po Industrial Estate);
  • KMB Route No. 290E (Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate - Tsuen Wan West Station);
  • KMB Route No. 298X (Hang Hau (North) - Cheung Sha Wan (Kom Tsun Street));
  • NWFB Route No. 790 (Oscar by the Sea - Tsim Sha Tsui East (Mody Road)); and
  • NWFB Route No. 795 (Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate - Hoi Tat Estate (Sham Mong Road)).

     ýÿThe bus stops at Lam Tin Interchange and Wan O Road will also commence operation on the same date.

     The TD reminded passengers to take an early note of the service areas, operating hours and bus stop locations of these routes in order to plan their journeys in advance. More information is available on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk/en/transport_in_hong_kong/tunnels_and_bridges_n/tkoltt/index.html) or bus operators' websites and mobile applications. The TD has also reminded bus companies to closely monitor the operations of these routes on the first day, and arrange spare buses to meet passenger demand.
