The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO) took part in the City of London Lord Mayor's Show on November 12 (London time) with a float highlighting Hong Kong's status as an international financial centre.

     The London ETO's float, led by a group of dragon dancers, displayed a dragon-style body and signature landmarks of Hong Kong, symbolising Hong Kong's unique position as a dynamic international financial centre. A total of 25 flag bearers marched alongside the float, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

     The Director-General of the London ETO, Mr Gilford Law, whose office devised and organised Hong Kong's float, said, "We congratulate the new Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Nicholas Lyons, and look forward to collaborating with him in the coming year." Mr Law added, "Hong Kong is the only city in the world where global advantage and China advantage converge, as charted in the National 14th Five-Year Plan. Our float this year demonstrates that, under 'one country, two systems', Hong Kong provides a favourable environment for businesses to thrive and tap into the Mainland and Asia-Pacific markets. In tandem with Hong Kong's re-connection with the world, ample business opportunities lie ahead of us."

     The annual Lord Mayor's Show celebrates the swearing-in of the new Lord Mayor of London, who serves as a global ambassador for the United Kingdom's financial services sector. This year, Alderman Nicholas Lyons became the 694th Lord Mayor of London. More than half a million people take to the streets to see the parade each year, while the BBC broadcasts it live to millions of people in Britain and globally. 

     London ETO first took part in the Lord Mayor's Show in 2005. London ETO has been using colourful and exciting displays to showcase the different facets of Hong Kong, for instance, cultural heritage, innovation and technology as well as natural attractions.
