The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today (June 22) that, in light of the rising number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 recently, the holding centres at Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre and Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre will come into operation on June 25.
Starting from June 25, COVID-19 patients who are asymptomatic or showing mild symptoms from residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) or residential care homes for persons with disabilities (RCHDs) will be sent to the aforementioned centres for isolation and care. The halls in AsiaWorld-Expo managed by the SWD will be used as a quarantine centre for the residential care home residents who are identified as close contacts.
The centre at Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre, which provides around 180 beds, mainly serves elderly COVID-19 patients from the RCHEs. The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon has formed a care team to provide temporary care services.
With around 160 beds, the centre at Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre will receive COVID-19 residents from the RCHDs. A care team formed by Tang Tat Elderlycare will provide temporary care services.
The medical support of the two centres will be arranged by the Hospital Authority. The SWD expresses gratitude to the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon and Tang Tat Elderlycare for their assistance and co-operation so that the two holding centres can come into service promptly.
The SWD will continue to monitor the development of the epidemic closely. If necessary, and upon liaison with relevant bureaux and departments, the SWD will swiftly mobilise resources and prepare venues to activate other holding centres or quarantine facilities.
