Hong Kong Science Museum to stage large-scale dinosaur exhibition "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Big Eight - Dinosaur Revelation" next month (with photos/video)
******************************************************************************************
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Hong Kong Science Museum will stage a large-scale dinosaur exhibition, "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Big Eight - Dinosaur Revelation" from July 8 (Friday), showcasing eight of the most iconic fossil skeletons from the dinosaur kingdom. Crates containing exhibits of dinosaur fossils and models have been delivered to the Hong Kong Science Museum, and now the unpacking, installing and setting up of the exhibition is in full swing.

Owing to the enormous size of the exhibits, the museum has designated a total area of around 2,000 square metres at the exhibition hall to showcase the eight precious fossil specimens of prehistoric creatures from museums and organisations in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Five of the skeletons, including the Triceratops, Allosaurus, Hesperosaurus, Diplodocus and Tyrannosaurus were built from original fossils and reconstructed bones. One of the fossil's skeletons has a high level of completeness of over 90 per cent, which is very unique. The Spinosaurus and Hatzegopteryx are 1:1 reconstructed skeleton models with their original bones on display in showcases next to the skeletons. The remarkable exhibits include a baby sauropod displayed in its original buried status. Except for the Tyrannosaurus, the other seven fossil skeletons will be on display in Hong Kong for the first time.

"The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Big Eight - Dinosaur Revelation" is another large-scale dinosaur exhibition, succeeding "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Legends of the Giant Dinosaurs" in 2014. With a novel curatorial approach, the exhibition reveals new scientific insights in palaeontology. Integrating the gigantic size of dinosaurs with multimedia projection techniques, audiences will be offered immersive experiences to appreciate the dinosaurs and to understand the truth of the extinction of prehistoric creatures and the lessons to humans to avoid extinction. The exhibition production team is a respected group of internationally acclaimed professionals, comprising members from Hong Kong, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, etc. Before the exhibits are shipped to Hong Kong, the team has to carry out various professional preparatory works including test mounting, frame testing, fossil cleaning and packing. The exhibition is supported by the First Initiative Foundation, and the foundation's move demonstrates its dedication to contributing to the community and bridging the gap between Hong Kong and the world.

Jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the First Initiative Foundation, and jointly organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum and the First Initiative Foundation, the exhibition is exclusively sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC); and supported by the MTR Corporation. The exhibition will run from July 8 to November 16 at the Hong Kong Science Museum located at 2 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon, and admission is free. For exhibition details, please visit big8dinosaurs.hk.

The exhibition is one of the many initiatives supported by the HKJC's approved donation of $630 million to the Government of the HKSAR to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, demonstrating that the HKJC is resolute in pursuing its purpose of acting continuously for the betterment of society, all in support of creating a stronger community together.

In order to comply with the requirements stipulated in the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (Cap. 599F) and relevant requirements of administrative instructions, visitors are required to scan the "LeaveHomeSafe" venue QR code with their mobile phones/other mobile devices before being allowed to enter the museum for necessary contact tracing if a confirmed case is found.
