A spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said today (June 3) that in view of the Police's observation that some people are using different channels to incite the participation of unauthorised assemblies in the Victoria Park and its vicinity which may involve the use of the venue for illegal activities, the LCSD would close part of the Victoria Park from 11pm today until 12.30am on June 5, in order to prevent any unauthorised assemblies in the Park which affect public safety and public order, and the chance of a virus spread due to such gatherings.
The closed area includes football pitches, basketball courts, central lawn, fitness station, jogging lane, access in the closed area, some entrances along Causeway Road and the footbridge linking the Hong Kong Central Library (closed area shown in annex).
Hirers of the venue facilities on June 4 will be informed of the closure arrangements.
