Chief steward at Chief Justice's official residence tests positive for COVID-19

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     A spokesman for the Judiciary today (March 13) said that a chief steward at the official residence of the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal has tested positive for COVID-19.

     The chief steward works at the Chief Justice's official residence. He last performed duties on March 12 and is mainly responsible for daily household services at the residence. He wore masks and followed relevant disease prevention measures at work, and has no recent travel history.

     The Judiciary has conducted cleaning and disinfection at the official residence and will follow up on the case in accordance with the advice from the Department of Health.

     According to the definition of the Centre for Health and Protection, the Chief Justice and his family, as well as other domestic helpers at the residence are not close contacts of the chief steward. The Chief Justice conducted a rapid antigen test (RAT) today and the result was negative. All domestic helpers at the residence have been undergoing RAT before work and their results were negative today.

     For prudence's sake and in view of the general adjournment of proceedings, the Chief Justice will work from home this week.
