The DH is rolling out the Healthcare Facilities Development Programme (HFDP) to set up, renovate and modernise its clinic facilities. The Tuen Mun Wu Hong Elderly Health Centre is one of the projects under HFDP.
The project is collaborated between the DH and the Architectural Services Department, with a major objective to create a new fresh image and uplifting environment for elderly health centre. The architectural and design characteristics of the renovated clinic include introduction of natural lighting through the new viewing landscape areas and glass walls into the waiting area and treatment rooms, enhancing the integration of outdoor and indoor environment and inducing a positive mentality for elderly to receive service at the health centre. The use of vibrant colours and graphic representation with pine, bamboo and plum blossom from classical Chinese paintings showing traditional Chinese virtues on walls enable elderly to navigate to different zones of the centre with ease.
"With the continuous increase in Hong Kong's ageing population, the need for improving not only physical but also mental well-being of elderly people in this densely populated city of the 21st century is undeniable. Elderly-friendly design principles are implemented via master layout planning, interior design, clear signage, finishing materials, furniture and amenities," a spokesman for the DH said.
Other projects under the DH’s HFDP include the ongoing construction of a Community Health Centre cum Social Welfare Facilities at Pak Wo Road, North District, and the Health Centre and Social Welfare Facilities Building in Siu Sai Wan.
