Hospital Authority announces preliminary positive patient cases detected via admission screening or testing and clusters of nosocomial COVID-19 infections

The Hospital Authority today (February 16) announced the following preliminary positive or positive COVID-19 patient cases detected via admission screening or testing:

The patients tested preliminarily positive or positive are being treated under isolation. Some patients, who have already been discharged, have been reported to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) for follow up. The hospitals concerned have performed thorough cleaning and disinfection in the affected areas, and will continue to communicate with the CHP on the latest situation.
Besides, following two phlebotomists in the Nursing Services Department of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 earlier, the hospital has conducted contact tracing and one more phlebotomist tested preliminarily positive. One patient care assistant was identified as close contact.
Following a male patient in a medical ward of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) tested positive for COVID-19 earlier, the hospital has conducted contact tracing and one more male patient aged 91 tested preliminarily positive. And a 36-year-old female patient in a medical ward tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 yesterday. Two more female patients (aged 66 and 87) tested preliminarily positive were found in contact tracing. Admission to the ward has been suspended. In addition, following two patients in a neurosurgery ward tested positive for COVID-19 earlier, the hospital has conducted contact tracing and two female patients (aged 61 and 72), a patient care assistant and a nurse also tested preliminarily positive. Four staff members were identified as close contacts due to having meal or chatting with the nurse without the masks.
Regarding the cluster of cases in a medical ward in Caritas Medical Centre earlier, one more supporting staff member tested preliminarily positive. Regarding an earlier announcement of a confirmed 58-year-old male in medical ward, one 97-year-old male patient was found tested positive.
A 40-year-old female patient in a psychiatric ward in Kwai Chung Hospital tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 yesterday, the patient had been transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment. Four female patients (aged 23 to 61) tested preliminarily positive in contact tracing. All patients are in stable condition.
Two nurses working in the Cardiac Intervention Centre of Princess Margaret Hospital tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 earlier. Upon assessment by the hospital’s infection control team, it is believed that there is connection between the two cases.
Admissions to the ward have been suspended. Thorough cleaning and disinfection operations have been performed in the affected areas by the hospitals. The hospitals will continue to closely monitor the health condition of patients and staff members and communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest situation.
