The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 9am today (February 9), 121 patients who had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 13 436 patients have been discharged.
 
     A total of 1 990 patients who had tested positive are currently hospitalised in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, the Hospital Authority (HA) Infectious Disease Centre, the Community Treatment Facility at AsiaWorld-Expo and 15 public hospitals, including two critical patients and three serious patients. The remainder are in stable condition.
 
     In addition, two male patients of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) confirmed with COVID-19 infection passed away. The 73-year-old male patient (case number: 17498) with chronic disease was admitted to the surveillance ward of CMC in the evening on February 7 due to chest infection. The patient's condition rapidly deteriorated in hours and he was found to have cardiac arrest at 2.43am on February 8. Active cardiopulmonary resuscitation was done, but it was in vain. The patient eventually succumbed at 4.45am. The case has been referred to the Coroner. The 76-year-old male patient (case number: 16741), also with chronic disease, was admitted to the surveillance ward of CMC in the afternoon on February 6 due to pleural effusion and respiratory symptoms. The patient's condition gradually deteriorated and he eventually succumbed at 4.45am on February 9. Including the above two patients, 207 COVID-19 confirmed patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.

     The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
