Correctional officer of Pak Sha Wan Correctional Institution tests preliminarily positive for COVID-19

The Pak Sha Wan Correctional Institution last night (February 3) learned that a correctional officer has tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19.
Due to his recent contact with relatives who have tested positive for COVID-19, the staff member underwent a COVID-19 test yesterday. On the same night, he was notified that he had tested preliminarily positive. He is now under home isolation pending admission to hospital. The staff member has no recent travel history. He has been wearing surgical masks when performing duties. His body temperature was normal when undergoing temperature screening at work and he did not have any symptoms.
Colleagues who work with the staff member concerned have no symptoms for the time being. The Correctional Services Department (CSD) has liaised with the Centre for Health Protection and followed the advice given which includes arranging COVID-19 testing for the staff and persons in custody of the institution, as well as conducting a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the institution. As such, the visiting facilities of Pak Sha Wan Correctional Institution are suspended today (February 4) until further notice.
The CSD is highly concerned about the COVID-19 epidemic and has remained highly vigilant. Relevant hygienic measures for prevention of infectious diseases have been strictly implemented in accordance with the established mechanism. In addition, a series of disease prevention and disinfection measures have been put in place, including requiring staff members to check body temperatures and wear masks before and when performing duties, and conducting cleaning and disinfection regularly at all working locations in the institutions. All staff members and persons in custody are also reminded by the management to have a medical consultation promptly if they have any symptoms.
