Director of Leisure and Cultural Services grieves over passing of artisan

Two staff members of the Hong Kong West Tree Team equipped with suitable safety equipment were conducting tree trimming work on a hydraulic platform at the junction of Water Street and Third Street in Sai Ying Pun this morning. The hydraulic platform suddenly plunged and the two colleagues were rescued and sent to hospital. The female artisan was certified dead while the male artisan has been admitted for treatment.
The cause of the incident is under investigation. The department has been in touch with the family of the deceased staff member and will make every effort to help her family. The department also expressed sympathy to the injured colleague and wished him a speedy recovery.
