HK intangible cultural heritage items to be showcased at Prince Kung's Mansion Museum in Beijing (with photos)

     "The Oral Legacies: Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" Exhibition Month of the 2018 Activity Series of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Exhibition and Protection Base will open to the public at Prince Kung's Mansion Museum of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Beijing tomorrow (December 16). The Exhibition Month will introduce to Beijing citizens the 20 items that have been inscribed onto the Representative List of the ICH of Hong Kong.
 
     The 20 items on the Representative List relate to various areas including performing arts, beliefs and rituals, festive events and traditional craftsmanship. They will be introduced during the Exhibition Month through exhibits, illustrated text panels, multimedia programmes, a seminar, demonstrations and experiential activities. By showcasing the richly diverse aspects of the traditional culture of Hong Kong, the Exhibition Month aims to enhance cultural exchange between Beijing and Hong Kong and arouse the awareness and appreciation of citizens and tourists in Beijing towards the ICH of Hong Kong.
 
     The exhibits will include Hong Kong-style cheongsams made by local cheongsam masters, lion lanterns, a Hakka unicorn and costumes of renowned Cantonese opera artists. In addition, cheongsams made by students of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong will be featured during the Exhibition Month. The students joined a programme entitled "Faithful to the Craft - Transmission Scheme for Hong Kong-style Cheongsam Sewing Technique 2018" held by the ICH Office during July and August to learn cheongsam sewing techniques from senior cheongsam masters.
 
     The opening ceremony of the Exhibition Month was held today (December 15). The officiating guests included the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam; the Vice-Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr Xiang Zhaolun; the Director-General of the Department of ICH of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr Chen Tong; the Inspector of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr Man Hongwei; the Director of Prince Kung's Mansion Museum of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr Sun Xuguang; the Chairman of the ICH Advisory Committee, Professor Cheng Pei-kai; the Director of the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Beijing, Ms Gracie Foo; and the Head of the ICH Office, Ms Cissy Ho.
 
     The Exhibition Month is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Prince Kung's Mansion Museum of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and organised by the ICH Office, the National ICH Exhibition and Protection Base and the Chinese Traditional Arts and Crafts Research and Protection Center in Prince Kung's Mansion of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
