Agreement on intellectual property co-operation in Pan-Pearl River Delta region signed

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government, the Macau SAR Government and nine intellectual property (IP) offices of the Pan-Pearl River Delta (Pan-PRD) region attended the 2017 Pan-PRD IP Co-operation Joint Conference in Changsha, Hunan Province today (November 21). At the Joint Conference, the Hong Kong SAR Government and the relevant parties signed the "Agreement on intellectual property co-operation in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region in the context of the Belt and Road" (Co-operation Agreement).
The nine IP offices in the Pan-PRD region represent the provinces/regions of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan. The Co-operation Agreement aims to promote the continuous deepening of regional IP co-operation and facilitate economic and cultural exchanges with countries and regions along the Belt and Road, thereby fostering joint economic development in the Pan-PRD region.
The Co-operation Agreement covers five areas:
- Strengthening studies in IP policy, laws and regulations; enhancing mutual exchange and co-operation in the formulation of IP strategies;
- Exploring ways to enhance exchange and co-operation in IP protection and enforcement;
- Promoting IP commercialisation in creative industries, brand and technology industries to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises;
- Leveraging the resources and advantages of all parties to promote the development of high-end IP services; and
- Stepping up promotion of IP co-operation and exchange and enhancing IP awareness among the youth.
