Cluster of Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae cases in Kowloon Hospital

The spokesperson for Kowloon Hospital (KH) made the following announcement today (August 21):
Five patients (aged 70 to 97) in a female Rehabilitation Ward have been confirmed to be carrying Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae since August 10. Among these five patients, one was transferred to United Christian Hospital, one passed away due to her own medical illness and the remaining three were still hospitalised in KH under isolation with stable condition.
The hospital infection control team has followed up with concerned departments and experts of the Centre for Health Protection in accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
