The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, took part in Sport For All Day to enjoy the fun of sports with members of the public during his district visit to Sham Shui Po this afternoon (August 6).
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Sham Shui Po District Council (SSPDC), Mr Ambrose Cheung; the Vice Chairman of the SSPDC, Mr Chan Wai-ming; and the District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Damian Lee, Mr Yang visited Pei Ho Street Sports Centre to learn more on the free use of recreation and sports facilities by the public on Sport For All Day and encouraged attendees to stay healthy with regular exercises. In addition to watching demonstrations and participation activities of netball, dancing and mini-volleyball, Mr Yang also joined a mini-tennis activity to share the fun of sports with the public.
This was followed by a meeting with members of the SSPDC, during which Mr Yang listened to their views on using innovation and technology to address district issues and improve people's living.
A tour of two computer-themed malls, Golden Computer Arcade and Golden Shopping Centre, came after the meeting with members of the District Council. Mr Yang visited some shops there and chatted with tenants to better understand their businesses and challenges faced by small and medium enterprises.
Mr Yang said he is familiar with computer malls in the district. "My first job after graduation was all about computer chips. I like building computers by myself, and used to build with 386, 486 and Pentium microprocessors before. I often go to computer malls. They are places where a wide variety of technological products are available and market trends are closely followed."
Mr Yang said he will continue his visits to various districts, later to be joined by his Under Secretary and his Political Assistant, to reach out to various sectors, elaborate on policies and listen to views on the work of the Government so as to enhance communication with the public.
The Permanent Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Cheuk Wing-hing, also participated in today's district visit.
