Update on clusters of infectious disease cases in New Territories West Cluster

The spokesperson for New Territories West Cluster made the following update today (July 18) regarding two earlier announcements by Pok Oi Hospital (POH) and Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) respectively on clusters of inpatient infection cases:
Regarding the earlier announcement by POH on a cluster of patients infected with Respiratory Syncytial Virus in an infirmary ward, one more 37-year-old female patient in the ward presented with respiratory symptoms today. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in a stable condition.
Furthermore, regarding the earlier announcement by SLH on a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A (H3) in a female ward for severe intellectual disability, seven more patients (aged 21 to 56) and a staff member in the ward have presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Influenza A (H3). The patients are being treated under isolation and are in a stable condition. The staff member is currently on sick leave.
Admission to the concerned wards in the two hospitals has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
