SCMA visits elderly in Kwun Tong District (with photos)
*******************************************************
The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Patrick Nip, today (July 18) visited an elderly centre in Kwun Tong and distributed gift packs to elderly families in the district with a view to bringing the love and care message to the community.

Accompanied by District Officer (Kwun Tong), Mr Steve Tse, Mr Nip visited the Po Leung Kuk Lau Chan Siu Po District Elderly Community Centre and was briefed on the centre's community care services to the elderly. He chatted with the elderly in the centre to learn about their daily life and needs and also had lunch with them.

After lunch, Mr Nip participated in the "Celebrations for All" activity of Kwun Tong District and distributed gift packs to elderly households in the district.

Mr Nip said, "This is my first visit to the community after taking office as the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs. I have a special attachment to Kwun Tong as my alma mater is in this district and it is where I spent my adolescence. During today's visit, I have had the chance to have face-to-face contact with the elderly in the district, and from their enthusiastic response during our chats, I can feel the loving spirit in the community and the importance of mutual care."

"In future, I will come out of the office more often and visit different districts to get in touch with various sectors of the community. I hope that in so doing, I would be able to have a better grasp of the needs of the districts and the sentiments of people."

The "Celebrations for All" project is one of the major events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Department and implemented by the non-government organisations in the 18 districts.

The activity in Kwun Tong today is also joined by other staff members of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau.
