Deputy Commissioner of Police inspects passing-out parade at HK Police College (with photos)

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management), Mr Chau Kwok-leung, today (Jun 24) inspected the passing-out parade for 42 probationary inspectors and 250 recruit constables at the Hong Kong Police College.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chau said that professional police officers should keep themselves abreast with the rapidly changing society by pursuing lifelong learning, while they should also continuously improve themselves in the ways they handle issues and interact with people, so as to serve our community with pride and care.

“Police work is multi-faceted and highly demanding. No matter whether it is day or night, good or bad weather, any difficulties ahead, officers rise to challenges and carry out their duties in fighting crime, maintaining law and order, handling different incidents and taking part in rescue operations and the like. It is challenging but meaningful, as through our efforts, we help to ensure the safety and stability of our community,” he said.

Mr Chau noted that in addition to enhancing officers’ professional abilities, it is also vital to gain the support from members of the public. This is not an easy task, as our society is becoming increasingly complex and citizens have higher expectations from the Force.

“I firmly believe that working together as a team will make us stronger as an organisation. It will also enable us to overcome whatever hurdles or obstacles we may face in our path,” he said.

Mr Chau encouraged the graduates to uphold the Force values of integrity and honesty, while serving our community in a fair, impartial and compassionate manner and deliver their duties without fear or favour. Only by doing so could they gain the support from the public, he added.

To conclude, Mr Chau said upon his retirement, he would like to thank the Force for the nurture, trust and opportunities given to him, as well as his colleagues for their support. He was honoured to have grown up with the Force and witness it to become a professional, upright, efficient and committed modern law enforcement body.
