The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO Berlin) participated in the international education fair Study World 2017 in Berlin on May 12 and 13 (Berlin time), at which more than 150 exhibitors from 25 nations presented to students a variety of study opportunities worldwide. HKETO Berlin hosted a booth offering comprehensive information about studying in Hong Kong as well as the city's various talent admission and working holiday schemes. The Director of HKETO Berlin, Ms Betty Ho, gave a presentation on May 13 about the unique opportunities Hong Kong offers to students and talents from around the world.

     Hong Kong's diverse and distinguished study programmes are taught in English. In addition, the city adopts international standards of curriculum design and quality assurance and hosts some of the world's best business administration and executive business management programmes. Of the nine publicly funded universities in Hong Kong, four were ranked in the world's top 60 and Asia’s top 10 by the Quacquarelli Symonds University Rankings 2016. The University of Hong Kong was also named the most international university in Asia and third most international worldwide in the Times Higher Education Ranking 2017.

     In her presentation, Ms Ho emphasised that Hong Kong is a unique place where East meets West. "Hong Kong offers an environment where young people can gain the experience of studying or working in an Asian and Chinese environment, while at the same time continuing to enjoy a Western lifestyle."

     Ms Ho highlighted the various scholarship opportunities that German students can apply for. To attract outstanding non-local students to study in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government offers various scholarship opportunities. Among them, the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund offers HK$80,000 per year for each scholarship awardee, and the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 per year to each awardee for a period of up to three years.

     Ms Ho also introduced the various admission schemes that enable young talents, professionals and entrepreneurs to stay in Hong Kong. In addition, young Germans aged between 18 and 30 years old can make use of the working holiday scheme agreement between Hong Kong and Germany to experience Hong Kong’s culture by living, working or studying in the city for up to one year.
