LegCo Subcommittee on Refuse Collection and Resource Recovery visits refuse collection and resource recovery facilities of Chinese University of Hong Kong (with photos)

The Legislative Council (LegCo) Subcommittee on Refuse Collection and Resource Recovery conducted a visit to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) today (May 15) to obtain first-hand information on the refuse collection and resource recovery system of the CUHK.
Members visited various waste management facilities in the CUHK, including the facilities for food waste recycling, the Yard for Environmental Sustainability which encourages waste reuse and recycling, as well as the shop on waste reduction operated by students in Central Campus. Members then observed a demonstration on waste tracking and auditing to learn how the CUHK uses radio frequency identification (RFID) electronic tags to trace and record the amount of waste at the Marine Station Refuse Collection Point in the eastern campus.
Members also attended a sharing session by CUHK representatives on their waste reduction programme and waste reduction requirements in CUHK's waste management contract. Representatives of the Government were also invited to join the visit and Members took the opportunity to exchange views with relevant government officials on the policies of refuse collection and resource recovery.
Members participating in the visit included Subcommittee member Mr Chu Hoi-dick and non-Subcommittee member Mr Ho Kai-ming.
