Hong Kong Customs steps up enforcement action against cross-boundary drug trafficking (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs detected a total of eight cases and seized about 170 grams of suspected cocaine and small quantity of suspected ketamine and methamphetamine, with an estimated market value of about $180,000 at HK-Macau Ferry Terminal in the past three weeks.

     The seized suspected drugs were mostly found on body. Nine persons including seven men and two women, aged from 16 to 27, were arrested. The cases have been duly followed up.

     Hong Kong Customs will step up enforcement at all control points during Christmas and New Year’s holidays to combat cross-boundary drug trafficking.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
