The prize presentation ceremony for the Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese 2016 organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department was held today (November 24) at the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL). More than 1 200 entries were received on various topics in six categories and 48 winning works were selected by the judges.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chairman of the Public Libraries Advisory Committee, Mr Sunny Lee, said that the Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese aim to encourage people who love writing to learn from the works of others, thus promoting literary writing in Hong Kong. He said he was delighted to see many secondary and tertiary school students joining the field of creative writing every year, which shows that the seeds of Hong Kong literature have thrived and that its development has been strengthened.
A list of the winners (in Chinese only) is available at the HKPL website at www.hkpl.gov.hk/en/common/attachments/extension-activities/literature/awards-competition/2016AwardsCreative_Result.pdf.
The winning works will be on display at Exhibition Galleries 4 and 5 of the HKCL from tomorrow (November 25) to December 7. The judges' comments on the entries in the final adjudication will be consolidated into an Adjudication Summary Booklet (in Chinese only), which will be available at the Reference Libraries at the HKCL, City Hall Public Library, Kowloon Public Library, Tsuen Wan Public Library, Sha Tin Public Library, Tuen Mun Public Library and Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Public Library for public reference.
In addition, the awarded works by the winners, first runners-up and second runners-up in the different categories will be published by the HKPL (in Chinese only) for public appreciation.
