At the ABAC Dialogue this afternoon, Mr Leung discussed with other economic leaders the recommendations of the 2016 ABAC Annual Report to APEC Leaders, including supporting the multilateral trading system; enabling a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP); growing global micro, small and medium enterprises; achieving food security; and promoting a healthy and productive workforce.
Speaking at the ABAC Dialogue, Mr Leung reiterated that Hong Kong, as a strong advocate of free trade, sees the importance of strengthening trade and investment liberalisation and facilitation. He said he looked forward to the realisation of the FTAAP, which could advance regional economic integration and boost business opportunities among APEC economies.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Executive attended the APEC CEO Summit, during which President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech. Mr Leung later held a bilateral meeting with Second Vice President of Peru, Ms Mercedes Araoz, to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
In the evening, Mr Leung attended the welcome dinner of the APEC 2016 Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM). He will attend the AELM Retreat and an informal conversation on the global economic context tomorrow.
