Hong Kong Customs smashes suspected smuggling case of computer central processing units at Sha Tau Kok Control Point (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 27) smashed a suspected smuggling case at Sha Tau Kok Control Point and seized 491 computer central processing units (CPUs), with a total value of about $900,000, from an outgoing private car.

     Customs officers intercepted an outgoing private car at Sha Tau Kok Control Point for inspection yesterday evening and found 491 CPUs concealed inside the altered structure in the driving compartment. The 52-year-old male driver was arrested for attempting to export unmanifested cargo. He has been released on bail pending further investigation.

     Under the Import and Export Ordinance, it is an offence for any person to attempt to export unmanifested cargo. The maximum penalty is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
