HKETO, Brussels promotes Hong Kong films in Greece (English only) (with photos)
*******************************************************************************
Riding on the success of the Hong Kong Martial Arts Films programme in Thessaloniki in 2015, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) has partnered with the Thessaloniki International Film Festival again this year to screen more signature Hong Kong films in the second largest city in Greece.

The films being screened in the Hong Kong Film Panorama in Thessaloniki from September 25 to 28 (Thessaloniki time) are Johnnie To’s "Election", Daniel Lee’s "Dragon Blade", Wong Kar-wai’s "The Grandmaster", Johnnie To’s "Sparrow" and Hou Hsiao-hsien's "The Assassin".

Addressing the audience after the screening of "The Grandmaster" on September 26, the Assistant Representative of HKETO, Brussels, Mr Jeffrey Chim, said that Hong Kong has one of the largest and most dynamic film entertainment industries in the world, with 59 Hong Kong films released in the city last year.

"Hong Kong movies now embrace many different styles, but martial arts films are still a favourite with audiences," he said, noting that the philosophy of martial arts - striving for perfection, never giving up, and at the same time being flexible - also resonates with the Hong Kong spirit.

Noting that "The Grandmaster" is about the life of legendary kung fu master Ip Man, whose most famous pupil was Bruce Lee, Mr Chim recommended to the audience the major exhibition of the life and work of Bruce Lee, which is being held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum until 2018.

During his visit to Thessaloniki, Mr Chim also seized the opportunity to meet with representatives of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Federation of Industries of Northern Greece.
