The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:
The local premiere of a new film financed by the Film Development Fund (FDF), "The Moment", will be held this evening (September 13). The production budget for the film was around $9.2 million, with government finance amounting to about $2.76 million.
"The Moment" is the first feature film directed by Wong Kwok-fai, starring Gordon Lam, Poon Chan-leung and Dada Chan. Centred on a vintage photo studio, it depicts sentiments in life through four stories between family, friends and lovers.
In March this year, the film was shown with success at the 20th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market. It will also be shown at the Fukuoka International Film Festival 2016.
The Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), Mr Wellington Fung, said, "The showing of 'The Moment' at an international film festival proves the attractiveness of Hong Kong films in international markets.
"The film has engaged many up-and-coming filmmakers, which is in line with the FDC's policy directive in nurturing film talents. We will continue to provide financial support through the FDF to this type of film project in order to provide more opportunities for newcomers to unveil their talents and to boost the vibrancy of the film industry."
In May 2015, the Government further injected $200 million into the FDF to boost the volume of local film production and nurture film talent. Since 2007, 34 applications have been approved for financing under the fund, involving total funding of about $94.42 million.
