Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected methamphetamine at Lok Ma Chau Control Point (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs seized about three kilograms of suspected methamphetamine at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday (September 2). The market value of the drugs was about $1,035,000.

     Customs officers of Lok Ma Chau Control Point found about one kilogram of suspected methamphetamine inside a shoulder bag carried by an incoming female during passenger clearance yesterday evening. Upon personal search, a small quantity was also found on her. Later, Customs officers of Lok Ma Chau Control Point intercepted and arrested a man who was found on-board an incoming 7-seater private car and found about two kilograms of suspected methamphetamine inside the rucksack he was carrying.

     The arrested man and woman, aged 21 and 35 respectively, both claimed to be unemployed. The case is still under investigation.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
