SDEV visits Tsuen Wan District (with photos)
********************************************

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, visited science education, heritage and cultural facilities and a school in Tsuen Wan District today (April 14). He also met with members of the Tsuen Wan District Council (TWDC) to learn more about the latest developments of the district.

Accompanied by the Chairman of the TWDC, Mr Chung Wai-ping; the Chairman of the Ma Wan Rural Committee, Mr Chan Sung-ip; and the District Officer (Tsuen Wan), Miss Jenny Yip, Mr Chan first visited the Ma Wan Solar Tower. The Tower is a science exhibition, education and research centre where visitors can view activity on the surface of the sun and learn more about the solar system and the universe. It also aims at enhancing public awareness of cherishing valuable natural resources and nature conservation.

Mr Chan then went to "Fong Yuen Study Hall" - Tourism and Chinese Cultural Centre cum Ma Wan Residents Museum. Fong Yuen Study Hall used to be a rural private school and was listed as a Grade III historic building by the Antiquities Advisory Board in 2010. It was selected in the first batch of buildings for the Revitalising Historic Buildings through the Partnership Scheme launched by the Development Bureau in 2008 and was renovated for its existing use. The Museum came into operation in 2013 to showcase Ma Wan's unique history and culture.

Mr Chan then proceeded to visit Yan Chai Hospital Lim Por Yen Secondary School, and chatted with students about their school life and studies.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Chan met with members of the TWDC and exchanged views with them on a range of issues including district development and people's livelihood.
