Holiday arts and fun in LCSD parks (with photo)
***********************************************

Parks are not only where visitors go to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, but also ideal places to enjoy a creative and artistic ambience. A new phase of the Arts Corner will be launched at Victoria Park under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) this Sunday (April 3). Members of the public will find various unique handicrafts and arts services stalls there.

This 17th phase of the Arts Corner will run until March 26, 2017, and will be open from 10am to 6pm on Sundays and public holidays at the park's South Pavilion Plaza. There will be 21 stalls selling handicrafts including accessories, floral artworks, cloth artworks and leather as well as photography, calligraphy and painting services. The Arts Corner will be suspended during major events held at the park.

"The Arts Corner aims at enhancing public interest in the arts and enriching the arts atmosphere in Hong Kong. It will also make the park more appealing and enjoyable for park-goers," a spokesman for the department said.

"The stalls will provide a wide array of items and products which are original works produced by the stallholders, catering to various interests. Visitors will certainly find their favourite items," he added.

In addition to Victoria Park, another Arts Corner has started at Hong Kong Park, while a similar one in Kowloon Park will start in June.

The 16th phase of Hong Kong Park's Arts Corner is now open between noon and 6pm every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday. It will continue until December 31 at the outdoor area near the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware. There are 10 stalls in operation including handicrafts stalls selling ornaments, floral artworks, dough models, pottery and sculpture, as well as arts stalls providing services in painting, silhouette cutting and sketching.

The 18th phase of the Arts Fun Fair in Kowloon Park will begin on June 5 at the Loggia and will be open from 1pm to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays until May 28, 2017. The fair will feature a total of 30 stalls selling handicrafts and artworks or providing arts services.

Individuals or non-profit making organisations (any charitable organisation which is exempt from tax under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance) which are interested in operating stalls in this new round of the Kowloon Park Arts Fun Fair are welcome to submit applications between April 5 and 26. Prospectuses and application forms can be obtained at 1/F, Kowloon Park Management Office, 22 Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, or downloaded from the park's website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/parks/kp/other/arts_and_crafts.html.

"Arts Corners have been well received by the general public. Additionally, other specialised facilities in the parks also win the hearts of visitors, where they can enjoy fun-filled weekends," the spokesman said.
