Mr Lau also sent the warmest regards to Professor Jao on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government. He was joined by the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, and the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li.

"The HKSAR Government offers its best regards to Professor Jao just before the start of the Lunar New Year. We wish Professor Jao good health and all the best in the coming year. It is also an auspicious time to give our heartfelt thanks to Professor Jao, who has staged the exhibition 'Reminiscences of Hong Kong by the Brush: A Celebration of the 100th Birthday of Professor Jao Tsung-i' at Hong Kong Central Library last year. This exhibition celebrated the centenary of the birth of Professor Jao, and the general public has thus been able to admire Professor Jao's academic and arts achievements," Mr Lau said.

Presented by the Home Affairs Bureau, the exhibition "Reminiscences of Hong Kong by the Brush: A Celebration of the 100th Birthday of Professor Jao Tsung-i" was jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the University of Hong Kong. More than 100 selected works by Professor Jao were showcased. It was the largest and most wide-ranging exhibition on Professor Jao's works ever held in Hong Kong.

In addition, an exhibition on Professor Jao's artistic attainments was held at the National Museum of China in Beijing. It was co-hosted by the LCSD. The exhibition displayed more than 100 paintings by Professor Jao in various genres, as well as around 40 of his calligraphy works, more than 20 works made in collaboration with contemporary renowned artists and artworks derived from his calligraphy and paintings.
