Sir Robert Ho Tung Fund allocates grants to 197 charitable projects

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has allocated $9 million to 197 charitable projects in the areas of medicine and health, rehabilitation, social welfare, education and community service in the 2015 allocation.

     A spokesman for the Fund's Allocation Committee said today (February 5), "The fund's donation enables over 100 organisations to enhance their services, which will benefit a large number of people, especially the underprivileged."

     Major grants included:

* $1.36 million for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to purchase medical and rehabilitation equipment and to organise education camps for children with special needs;

* $680,000 for Kowloon Hospital to acquire medical equipment;

* $369,900 for the Po Leung Kuk to acquire nursing and rehabilitation equipment and organise programmes for children with special needs;

* $368,200 for the Women's Foundation to organise a life skills programme for secondary school students;

* $367,800 for the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association to acquire medical equipment for Grantham Hospital and Ruttonjee and Tang Shiu Kin Hospitals;

* $251,600 for Prince of Wales Hospital to purchase medical equipment;

* $248,300 for the Hong Kong St John Ambulance to acquire first aid equipment and provide first aid training for the general public;

* $242,000 for Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital to acquire medical equipment;

* $239,700 for the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council to acquire nursing and rehabilitation equipment;

* $206,700 for the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children to purchase furniture and equipment for its nursery schools and child care centres; and

* $202,300 for the Salvation Army to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children, youth and elderly services.

     Other fund recipients included Caritas Medical Centre, the Christian Family Service Centre, the Perfect Fellowship, the Hong Kong Red Cross and the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society.

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund, one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung. It is now managed by HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Limited.
