FS attends Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Opening Ceremony and Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Governors in Beijing (with photos)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (January 16) in Beijing attended as a member of the delegation of China the Opening Ceremony of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Governors of the AIIB, and witnessed the commencement of operation of AIIB.

     The establishment of AIIB marked a milestone of international collaboration in promoting economic growth in Asia. The AIIB, through financing of infrastructure projects, can promote regional co-operation and connectivity among the Asian countries, and unleash their development potential.

     Hong Kong has been actively participating in the preparatory work for establishing the AIIB, and will continue to discuss with the Central Government and AIIB the appropriate arrangement for Hong Kong to join the AIIB as a non-sovereign territory.

     "Hong Kong can leverage on our extensive experience and world-class professional services in the financing, planning as well as management of infrastructural projects, in participating in and supporting the work of AIIB," Mr Tsang said.

     Having concluded his visit in Beijing today, Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong tomorrow morning (January 17).
