The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (November 9) welcomed a new initiative by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to set up an innovation node in Hong Kong.
"Mr Nick Yang, my advisor on innovation and technology, and I visited MIT in May this year to exchange views on how to enhance our co-operation in innovation and technology. I am pleased to see Hong Kong being chosen by MIT as a key partner for its global innovation," the Chief Executive said.
"MIT and Hong Kong universities have already established ties in pre-competitive research. The MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node will deepen this relationship by bringing together students, academics and entrepreneurs from Boston and Hong Kong, co-creating value for both communities," Mr Leung said, adding that MIT's renowned commercialisation programme and capability would also benefit Hong Kong.
"The cutting-edge technologies that MIT brings to Hong Kong will inspire our young people and stimulate innovations. The Innovation and Technology Bureau, which will be set up on November 20, will provide more focused effort to take forward a broad-based collaboration between MIT and Hong Kong, and to identify further co-operation opportunities both in the Mainland and overseas," the Chief Executive said.
