The Koon Kwan Tin Cantonese Opera Troupe will perform the new Cantonese opera "Deadly Hornet's Sting" and two traditional Cantonese operas, "Happy Marriage Achieved" and "The Mysterious Affair at Jizhou Academy", in January next year. The shows are presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Details of the performances are as follows:
January 2 (Saturday), 7.30pm
Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall
Programme: "Happy Marriage Achieved"
Performers: Lung Koon-tin, Wong Chiu-kwan, Chan Hung-chun, Lui Hung-kwong, Chan Ka-ming and Sun Kim-long
Synopsis: Qiao Danfeng, a brilliant girl with civil and military talents, is proficient in Chinese medicine. She is always at odds with Dai Sangu. Zhang Zhongchi, the Marquis of Huainan, looks for his mother who left him during his childhood. Sangu disguises herself as his mother and Zhongchi is not aware of the imposter's act. Zhongchi has a prenatal betrothal with Sima Jiaotong; yet he has an argument with Jiaotong's brother which affects the marriage. Meanwhile, Jiaotong is secretly involved with a royal prince and seeks help from Danfeng to break off the engagement. Thus Danfeng disguises herself as Jiaotong and decides to spoil the marriage. Unexpectedly, the two become romantically attracted to each other when they meet...

Synopsis: Yuyan is seven months pregnant when Wenfeng returns one evening and informs her that he needs to leave home for a while. He plans to smuggle some weapons out of Yanmen Gate that night. Yuyan intends to tag along, but Wenfeng does not want her to. They quarrel and Wenfeng leaves in anger. Yuyan is furious, which triggers her to give birth. Physician Li Xiang arrives in time and receives Yuyan's daughter safely. Wenfeng has now been away from home for eight years. It is the birthday of Li Xiang the physician, and Yuyan brings her daughter Xiaoyan to his party, where Yuyan meets Zhou Zhongming, a good friend of Li Xiang and the richest person in the city of Jincheng. Yuyan and Zhou are attracted to each other and get married. Guiren and Ruifang, the father and the sister of Zhongming, are both condescending persons. Xiaoyan is treated badly as the stepdaughter of the Zhou family. As a matter of coincidence, Wenfeng becomes acquainted with Zhongming and is invited to his home. The former couple meet and the past is rekindled ...

Programme: "The Mysterious Affair at Jizhou Academy"
Performers: Lung Koon-tin, Wong Chiu-kwan, Chan Hung-chun, Lui Hung-kwong, Chan Ka-ming, Sun Kim-long and Wai Chun-long
Synopsis: Luo Guangchi, chief instructor at the Jizhou Academy, is seeking a husband for his daughter Fengwei. He informs his students Chen Yansheng, Feng Guohua and Jia Congshan that whoever ranks first in the imperial examinations can marry Fengwei. Congshan buys his official post and title; Yansheng ranks third in the imperial military examination and is the first to set off to return to his hometown. Believing Yansheng's return to be triumphant, Guangchi weds Fengwei to him. Guohua and Congshan arrive too late. Congshan accidentally kills Xiangwen but plants the murder on Yansheng. Guohua serves as the judge in the case. Although Yansheng tries hard to prove his own innocence, he has been framed by Congshan...

Speakers will include Lung Koon-tin, Sun Kim-long, Wong Chiu-kwan and Chan Hung-chun. Admission is free with limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.
