The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Hospital Authority (HA) responded to media enquiries regarding the sit-in activity organised by a doctor union this afternoon (October 21) at Queen Elizabeth Hospital:
The HA Chairman Professor, John Leong Chi-yan, and Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, accompanied by other senior executives, attended the activity this afternoon to listen to the doctors' views and concerns towards the remuneration issues related to Pay Level Survey.
Open exchange of views was made at the assembly. Professor Leong said he fully understood the request of doctors and promised to relay their views to the HA Board. He and other Board Members will meet representatives of the doctor union soon.
Dr Leung welcomed Secretary for Food and Health Dr Ko Wing-man's remarks that he supported, in principle, for HA to deploy its resources as a direction of resolving the issue, and thanked the government for the commitment on public healthcare services, including the construction of hospitals and the support for the direction of the healthcare services.
The HA Board will discuss this subject, in the Administrative and Operational Meeting tomorrow (October 22), and followed by deliberation in other relevant committees.
Dr Leung also reassured the ongoing communication with the medical staff and trusted that they would uphold a professional attitude to ensure the continual delivery of quality public healthcare service.
