Police yesterday (October 19) concluded a one-week territory-wide pedestrian safety operation. Through stringent enforcement actions, pedestrians, in particular the elderly, were reminded of the importance of road safety.
A total of 81 verbal warnings and 1 611 summonses were issued to pedestrians failing to comply with road safety regulations during the operation conducted from October 13 to 19.
During the period, Police issued 1 210 summonses for failing to comply with a light signal on a light signal crossing, 178 summonses for crossing the road within 15 metres of a footbridge/pedestrian subway other than by means of the footbridge/pedestrian subway, and 86 summonses for crossing the road within 15 metres of a light signal crossing other than by means of the light signal crossing.
"Pedestrians are reminded to take care and to cross the road safely. Those who fail to comply with the law may be liable to a maximum fine of $2,000,"
