Accompanied by the District Officer (Tai Po), Mr Bassanio So, Mr So first visited the Salvation Army Tai Po Multi-Service Centre for Senior Citizens to learn about its operation. In December 2013, the centre became the first project completed in Tai Po under a $900 million Improvement Programme of Elderly Centres. Mr So chatted with elderly people and he was glad to know that a computer learning centre has been set up for them to learn to use the Internet and acquire digital skills. He encouraged them to make good use of the facility to keep abreast of the times.
Mr So then went to Kwong Fuk Lane, Tai Wing Lane, Tai Kwong Lane and Tai Ming Lane at Tai Po Hui Market where he took the opportunity to talk with the stall owners and retailers to understand their business situation. He said the Government attaches great importance to the business outlook of the retail industry, and strives to maintain a business-friendly environment in Hong Kong.
Mr So next visited the Green Hub, a community facility for sustainable living. The premises was transformed from the Old Tai Po Police Station under Batch II of the Revitalising Historic Buildings through Partnership Scheme. The newly opened Green Hub has adopted an integrated approach to conserve the historic, architectural and cultural value, as well as the ecological importance, of the Grade 1 listed historic building.
Mr So was briefed on the mission of the Green Hub, as well as its education programmes and community projects for cultivating a low-carbon economy. He joined members of the Tai Po Youth Network to make traditional delicacies. Mr So also had exchanges with the young people and commended them for living a low-carbon life with a view to achieving a more sustainable community.
