Over 600 primary and secondary students showed their skills and strived for honour in the 18 Districts Cheering Team Competition today (October 1) at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Sports Centre.
The competition aimed to bring youngsters together, foster team building and promote positive values in life. The event was district-based and divided into primary school and secondary school sections. Besides competing for the gold, silver, bronze and merit awards, contestants also competed for the best slogan, best formation and best costume awards. The champions were selected after keen competition. The results are shown in the Annex.
In addition, the national champion team from Thailand was invited to give demonstrations and exchanged its skills with local youths, and participants shared positive energy.
The guests presenting awards at the competition included the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Betty Fung; the Convenor of the Youth Programme Co-ordinating Committee (YPCC), Mr David Yip; and the Deputy Director of Home Affairs, Mr Patrick Li.
Organised by the YPCC under the Commission on Youth and co-organised by the Home Affairs Department and the District Youth Programme Committees of the 18 districts, the competition was not only one of the major territory-wide youth programmes of the year, but also a celebration event to mark the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
