The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, started his duty trip to Beijing today (June 9) by visiting the 14th China International Environmental Protection Exhibition and Conference (CIEPEC) in the morning, where he learned more about the latest development and business opportunities of green technologies on the Mainland. Mr Wong also took the opportunity to meet with the exhibitors of the Hong Kong Pavilion, followed by a tour of the pavilion's booths.

The Environment Bureau (ENB) has set up the Hong Kong Pavilion in the CIEPEC to encourage co-operation between the environmental industries of Hong Kong and the Mainland and others from overseas. Using the pavilion as a platform, the ENB aims to promote the city¡¯s environmental technologies and services, and to establish connections and networks with Mainland and overseas counterparts to jointly participate in the fast-growing environmental technology service market.

Twelve Hong Kong environmental companies and organisations are using the Hong Kong Pavilion to showcase their environmental technologies, services and products.

In the afternoon, Mr Wong called on representatives of the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR). At the meeting, he briefed them on the progress of preparatory work for Hong Kong Geopark's 2015 Global Geoparks Network revalidation and on the science popularisation programme co-organised with the MLR. Future collaboration between the MLR and Hong Kong Geopark was also explored during the meeting.

Afterwards, Mr Wong visited the Beijing Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center to learn more about its operation and the latest development of the monitoring technologies.

Tomorrow (June 10) Mr Wong will meet representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to exchange views on issues concerning cleaner production and other related issues.
