Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Piano Recital by Yap Man-shan" will be staged in May to present music works by top maestros.
The programme includes Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze, BWV208" (transcribed by Petri) and "Suite from the Partita in E for Violin, BWV1006" (transcribed by Rachmaninoff), Brahms' "Handel Variations, Op. 24" and Rachmaninoff's "Six Moments Musicaux, Op. 16".
Yap Man-shan is a local young pianist who began her piano studies at the age of 6. She studied at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Poon Tak and Gabriel Kwok and graduated with a first-class honours Bachelor of Music degree. She further studied at the Eastman School of Music in the US with Nelita True, and gained a Master of Music degree, a Performer's Certificate and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. As the winner of several concerto competitions in Hong Kong and the US, Yap has performed as a soloist with various orchestras including the Texas Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2011, she was invited to perform the "Temptations" Piano Concerto by Dr Yip Wai-hong with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra. She is also an active chamber music player and has appeared in many concerts in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Macau, Taipei, Tokyo and New York.
Yap is currently on the piano faculty of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and a guest instructor at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has recorded several times for Radio Television Hong Kong.
"Piano Recital by Yap Man-shan" will be staged at 8pm on May 28 (Wednesday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $160 and $120 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
