Special traffic and transport arrangements in Lo Wai, Tsuen Wan for Ching Ming Festival
************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (March 20) reminded the public that as large numbers of grave sweepers are expected to go to Lo Wai in Tsuen Wan during the Ching Ming Festival, special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on Lo Wai Road on March 23, 29, 30, April 5 (Ching Ming Festival), 6 and 13.

To relieve traffic congestion on Lo Wai Road and for public safety reasons, the section of Lo Wai Road between Lo Wai Pai Lau and the Yuen Yuen Institute will be closed to all vehicular traffic, with the exception of taxis, green minibuses (GMBs), emergency vehicles and vehicles with valid closed road permits, from 8am to 5pm daily on the above-mentioned dates. Actual implementation of and adjustments to road closures and traffic control will be made by the Police and the TD at the time, depending on conditions in the areas concerned.

Since the number of parking spaces in nearby housing estates (Shek Wai Kok Estate, Cheung Shan Estate and Lei Muk Shue Estate) is limited, the TD appeals to grave sweepers to make use of public transport as far as possible. The public can go to Lo Wai by taking New Territories GMB route No. 81 (Shiu Wo Street (Tsuen Wan) ¡ª Lo Wai) or KMB bus route 32S (Castle Peak Road westbound (the Tsuen Wan section between Chung On Street and Tai Ho Road) - Tung Po Tor (Lo Wai Old Bus Terminus)), and then interchange at the Lo Wai Old Bus Terminus for free shuttle buses to get access to the closed section of Lo Wai Road. They may also make use of another free shuttle bus service at Tai Ho Road opposite Tsuen Wan West Station.

Public transport operators will display notices to advise passengers of the arrangements. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television. They can also visit the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk) or call 1823 for the latest traffic and transport information.
