Members of the public are invited to the final performance of the Schools Creative Music Showcase 2013/14, which will be held on January 29 (Wednesday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. The final performance will be held in two sessions - the primary and secondary sessions - at 3pm and 7.30pm respectively. Twenty four outstanding school teams will stage their creative performances and compete for various awards.
The Schools Creative Music Showcase is co-organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, sponsored by the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and supported by Youth.gov.hk of the Efficiency Unit of the Chief Secretary for Administration's Office. It aims to promote music making and stimulate creativity so that students will be able to express themselves through creative music making and multi-media art.
Arts education can help students develop holistically in the domains of ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics by engaging them in creating, thinking, exploring and self-learning. The annual Schools Creative Music Showcase is an initiative to promote arts education.
In the final performance, each primary school team will select one of the three designated sound projects for this year, namely Classroom Carnival, Heroic Rescue of the Earth and Rhapsody in the Market, and interpret the selected project in a performance of not more than five minutes.
The secondary school teams are divided into two groups - the Elite Group and the Premier Group. Each school team will present their original music with movements, mime or dance performances within five minutes (Elite Group) or seven minutes (Premier Group). All the creative projects this year have distinctive themes. Most of them attempt to reflect real-life problems.
The 24 creative projects were chosen in a preliminary selection in early December 2013. The primary and secondary school teams participating in the final performance are as follows:
