The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (October 15) urged the public not to consume the following two kinds of glass bottled beer that might contain glass fragments. The trade should also stop selling the products concerned.
(1) Product name: Carlsberg beer (glass bottled)
Manufacturer: Carlsberg Hong Kong
Packing size: 500ml
Production date: September 29 or 30, 2013
(2) Product name: SKOL beer (glass bottled)
Manufacturer: Carlsberg Hong Kong
Packing size: 640ml
Production date: September 29 or 30, 2013
A spokesman for the CFS said the centre had been notified by the manufacturer today that, during routine checking in its brewery in Huizhou last week, the bottle mouths of glass beer bottles were found to be broken, and there may be glass fragments within the beer. Production of beer in the brewery was halted immediately and all product shipments were held.
Upon investigation, the manufacturer confirmed that Carlsberg glass bottled beer (500ml) and SKOL glass bottled beer (640ml) produced on September 29 or 30 may have been affected. In view of this, the company is now voluntarily recalling the products concerned.
The manufacturer has contacted its major distributors about the incident and major supermarkets and chain convenience stores have stopped sale of the products. The trade should follow suit if these products are available for sale.
"The codes '29 09 14' or '30 09 14' were printed on the bottles or the labels of these two kinds of affected bottled beer. Consumers may call the manufacturer's hotline at 3189 8282 for enquiries about recall arrangements. The hotline is operating from 9am to 8pm from Monday to Saturday," the spokesman said.
As soon as the CFS was aware of the case, it immediately notified the trade. The CFS will closely monitor the recall. So far, no reports of people feeling unwell after consumption of the affected products or complaints about the products have been received.
People who wish to learn more about the affected products may visit the manufacturer's website.
