LegCo to debate motion on vote of no confidence in the Chief Executive

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) will hold a meeting tomorrow (October 16) at 11am in the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. During the meeting, Members will debate a motion on vote of no confidence in the Chief Executive.

     The motion, to be moved by Dr Kwok Ka-ki, states: "That this Council has no confidence in the Chief Executive, Mr Leung Chun-ying."

     Mr Kenneth Leung will also move a motion on optimising public finances and enhancing the impetus for innovation in Hong Kong's economy. The motion states: "That, given the lack of impetus for innovation in Hong Kong's economy, this Council urges the Government to increase substantially its investment in human capital and social infrastructure while maintaining a balanced budget by broadening the tax base and increasing the types of expenditure under the Capital Works Reserve Fund."

     Mr Ip Kin-yuen, Dr Elizabeth Quat, Mr Andrew Leung, Mr Sin Chung-kai, Mr Ronny Tong, Ms Cyd Ho and Mr Charles Peter Mok will move separate amendments to Mr Kenneth Leung's motion.

     Meanwhile, the Secretary for Food and Health will move proposed resolution under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance to seek the Council's approval to endorse the Pharmacy and Poisons (Amendment) (No. 5) Regulation 2013 and the Poisons List (Amendment) (No. 5) Regulation 2013, made by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board on September 23, 2013.

     During the meeting, Members will also ask the Administration 22 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies.

     Members of the public are welcome to observe the proceedings of the meeting from the public galleries of the Chamber of the LegCo Complex.
