The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Yuen Long to suspend business for 14 days.
The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the business area.
The restaurant, located at shop 2 on the ground floor of On Ning Building at No. 20-24, 28-30, 30A and 30B Ma Tin Road, was ordered to suspend business from today (July 11) to July 24.
"In this February and April, two convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said.
"A total fine of $14,000 was levied by the court and 30 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension," he added.
The licensee of the food premises had a record of two convictions for the same offence in April and September last year. A total fine of $5,000 was levied and 30 demerit points were registered. The breaches led to business suspension for seven days last November.
The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises have been licensed at a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is also available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
