The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (July 2) awarded a $2,545-million contract for construction of an interchange at Fanling Highway near Kiu Tau and ancillary works for the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point (BCP) project. This is the second of the four main civil engineering contracts awarded under the BCP project.
The contract mainly comprises the construction of an interchange at Fanling Highway with four link roads near Kiu Tau as part of the connecting road of the BCP, as well as the widening of a section of about one-kilometre-long of Fanling Highway near the proposed interchange. Construction of the interchange is scheduled to commence this month for completion in early 2018 to cater for the opening of the BCP.
The BCP project aims to develop a new BCP in Ta Kwu Ling and an 11-kilometre dual two-lane connecting road that will link the BCP to Fanling Highway. The BCP will be the seventh land crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It will provide efficient access to the eastern part of Guangdong and the adjacent provinces, and facilitate future regional co-operation and development. The connecting road will also provide convenient access to the local road network and future developments in the North District, hence improving the overall transport network in the adjoining areas.
