The spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) made the following announcement today (February 21):
A total of four children (three male and one female, aged 4 to 17) and three staff of the developmental and disabilities unit have presented with fever and upper respiratory symptoms since February 12. Influenza tests have been arranged and confirmed three children have been suffered from Influenza A. The concerned children are being treated under isolation. One of them is in serious condition and the others are in stable condition. One staff member is now on sick leave while the other two have recovered and been back to work.
Infection control measures have been stepped up according to established guidelines. Admission and activities of children who are staying in same dormitory have been suspended while visiting arrangement remains normal. All other children as well as staff in the unit are under close surveillance.
CMC has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority Head Office and Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
