The Central Government-led green-tech company, China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP), opened its office in Hong Kong today (September 20), using Hong Kong as its platform to go global.

CECEP is the only Mainland central enterprise specialised in energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection. Its focus is on municipal infrastructure for energy conservation and environmental protection, energy saving for industrial use and the integrated use of key resources, clean technologies and new energy projects. CECEP (Hong Kong) Investment Co Ltd is the group's wholly-owned subsidiary and oversees its international operations headquarters, which is mainly responsible for overseas investment, fund raising, carbon and international trading. The Hong Kong subsidiary will focus on the environmental protection business and actively explore overseas investment opportunities in related areas.

Chairman of CECEP, Mr Wang Xiaokang, said, "The opening of our Hong Kong office is a major step forward in our go global campaign. We want to make use of Hong Kong's international status as a platform from which to expand our business overseas and build up our brand image as one of the world's top-notch green tech enterprises.

"Hong Kong, as the world's freest economy and an international financial centre, provides a free flow of information, excellent infrastructure, well established legal framework, low tax regime and a wide range of financing sources. That is why we chose Hong Kong as our international headquarters to enhance our global competitiveness," he added.

Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Simon Galpin, welcomed CECEP's setting up its first office in Hong Kong and said, "As Hong Kong strives to move into a sustainable economy, it is important that we attract more technology companies like CECEP. We believe that the establishment of this operation in Hong Kong will bring us innovative products, services and technologies and add to the diversity of our environmental protection cluster."
