Correctional staff seize suspected dangerous drugs

     Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (April 3) rapidly stopped the smuggling of dangerous drugs into Tai Lam Centre for Women when they found an inmate remanded in the centre had discharged suspected dangerous drugs.

     The inmate, aged 39, was admitted to the centre on April 2 for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs. During a security check, officers found that she had discharged three pieces of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic.

     The CSD spokesperson said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     There have been 47 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
