The Labour and Welfare Bureau (LWB) announced today (February 1) that five courses offered by Accom Education Centre (the Centre) have been de-registered from the reimbursable course list of the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) with immediate effect. This follows the suspension of these courses on June 19, 2008. In accordance with CEF conditions, the Centre immediately ceased enrolling CEF students to these five courses following their suspension.
The decision was made on the grounds that the Centre failed to comply with the conditions of approval for CEF registration in that the Responsible Person of the Centre had been convicted in court proceedings related to the running of courses by the Centre.
A list of the five de-registered CEF courses is at Annex. The information is also available at the Office of Continuing Education Fund (OCEF) website (www.sfaa.gov.hk/cef/courseinfo.htm).
An LWB spokesman stressed that OCEF would continue to closely monitor CEF courses offered by course providers. In addition to authenticating attendance records of learners, their assessment results and claims for reimbursement, it would conduct regular and surprise visits to course providers to ensure that the conditions of approval were fully complied with.
For enquiries, members of the public may contact OCEF on its hotline 3142 2277 or in writing via electronic mail, by post or by fax.
